The long dormant Saw franchise is returning and we’ve got the details right now on Clevver Newsfeed. Today's episode of Clevver News feed is brought to you by T-Mobile, the uncarrier. The once king of torture porn is ready to create a legacy. The Tracking Board brings word that Lionsgate has tapped Sorority Row writers Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger to help relaunch the Saw franchise with an eighth film currently titled, Saw: Legacy. The last time we heard rumblings about a new film was back in 2012 when original Saw director James Wan and screenwriter Leigh Whannell expressed interest in rebooting the franchise. Formal discussions began shortly after and now it looks like things are moving forward. While plot details are being kept under wraps and at this point we don’t even know if the new film will be a reboot, remake or a straight sequel, the hiring of Stolberg and Goldfinger suggests the studio is looking to bring more dark humor into the franchise. In addition to 2009’s Sorority Row, the pair are also responsible for 2010’s Piranha 3D. Stolberg is also a director having helmed the 2014 Hunger Games spoof, The Hungover Games, among others, but it’s unclear if he’ll handle directing duties on Legacy. First launched in 2004, the Saw franchise quickly became a global phenomenon earning around $875 million worldwide over a course of 7 films. The series seemingly ended with 2010’s Saw 3D: The Final Chapter. Since then, director James Wan has gone on to direct blockbusters like The Conjuring and last year’s Furious 7. He is currently working on this summer’s The Conjuring 2 and will follow that up with 2018’s Aquaman. He along with original writer Leigh Whannell will serve as executive producers on Saw: Legacy.
