DC’s Cinematic Universe continues to come together as Warner Brothers sets a director for their solo Aquaman movie. We’ve got the full story right here on Clevver Newsfeed. Following the success of Furious 7 earlier this year, director James Wan has been in hot demand with both Warner Brothers and Sony attempting to woo him to take on their Aquaman and Robotech projects, respectively. Well, it looks like Wan won’t have to decide between the two projects as he has closed a deal to helm both features. That’s right, Wan will first tackle DC’s solo Aquaman film which is set to star Jason Momoa as the King of Atlantis who will first make his debut in next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice followed by the Justice League movie in 2017 and then his own film currently set for July 27th, 2018. Wan will then start work on the long in development live-action Robotech movie based on the 1980’s anime series. Before all that though, Wan is set to helm a sequel to his 2013 hit horror film, The Conjuring which is set to arrive in theaters on June 10th, 2016. As for the Aquaman movie, it’s been described as focusing on Aquaman who is caught between his fellow Justice League members and billions of land dwellers who are constantly polluting the seas and his underwater kingdom of Atlanteans who are pushing to invade the surface. Wan will oversee the script, which is being written by 300 writer, Kurt Johnstad. In regards to hiring Wan to helm Aquaman, Warner Brothers president Greg Silverman said quote, “The Aquaman film will be a major tentpole picture for us and James’s span of work has proven him able to take on any manner of project, bringing his incredible creative talent and unique voice to the material.” Though he got his start in the horror genre, Wan was vocal about wanting to transition into other genres and he talked to us about just that when we spoke to him back in 2012 at New York Comic Con. It looks like we’ll have to wait for James Wan’s The Shadow or The Rocketeer, but what do you think of him taking on Aquaman and Robotech and since this means he won’t be free to direct 2017’s Furious 8, who would you like see take over that franchise?
